Review : Urban Decay Skull Shadow Box

Urban Decay, who doesn’t know that?
They always have the edgiest, and attractive packaging for each palette they carry! Yep, and thanks to the Friends and Family sale (all items 20% OFF!) back there in October.
This is my very first eyeshadows palette from them. Even though the palette is only $10.8 after the FnF coupon applied, I still pay $17.5 for the shipping and handling payment la ( TT ) Geez how I wish they soon would be available here in Indonesia!

I love……..NO, SUPER LOVEEEEEE THE BOX. It’s like a randomly sewed silver thread into a pretty yet edgy box. Made of a hard cardboard too, so don’t worry about its safety once it falls. Don’t—NEVER—try to drop it in purpose anyway!

There’s a card included in the plastic box packaging, explaining the colors this palette carries. Seems so pretty eh? This palette also has Vert (the green color) which has been discontinued. Yay!

It has mirror inside which is quite big la, compared to the whole palette’s size. It comes with dual ended sponge applicator too, which I prefer to a brush. Why do I sound so old-fashioned?? Soon you will know….why. And I bet you will agree with me.

Nine “smaller-than-dime” sized eyeshadows....This palette is smaller than what I thought before (>__< “)

The name written for each shade is not too visible, because it was written in silver, metallic silver, on a metallic textured purple cardboard. Bah. It’s very hard to capture them in camera; thank God this palette comes with a card which I talk about earlier.

Here are the swatches on my hand, without primer underneath :
Cherry - Midnight Cowboy Rides Again - Grifter - Vert - Oil Slick - Shattered - Blunt - Chopper - Twice Baked

Cherry - Midnight Cowboy Rides Again - Grifter - Vert - Oil Slick

Cherry is a very pale pink with tiny silver sparkles, it’s almost white when swatched. It has great pigmentation by the way, for such a light color!
Midnight Cowboy Rides Again is a beige-champagne gold color, with gold sparkles. This color has a very bad issue with fallout on me, and I couldn’t resist the sparkles, as they’re very prone to fall out no matter you use a base underneath. DUH!
Grifter is a medium purple, lavender color. It also has tiny silver sparkles, but no fallout issues with this color. It has decent pigmentation too.
Vert is the discontinued color, the only reason why I want to buy this palette!!! It’s a very beautiful green color, very pigmented also, with nice gold sheen which makes a duochrome effect. It has no glitter.

Oil Slick - Shattered - Blunt - Chopper - Twice Baked

Oil Slick is a matte black, with a fair amount of silver glitter in it. It has fallout issues too even just a little bit.
Shattered is a turquoise color, with nice gold sheen—another duochrome effect—in it. I loveeeee this color! It has buttery texture, sheer buildable color, and no fallout, no glitter. YAY!
Blunt is a pretty warm champagne color, with NO GLITTER! This is the no-glitter-version of Midnight Cowboy Rides Again.
Chopper is a warm bronze color, with tiny silver sparkles in it. It has a minor fallout issue, not as bad as Midnight Cowboy Rides Again has.
Twice Baked is a matte brown color with tiny silver sparkles, just like Oil Slick. It has nice pigmentation and minor fallout issues.

Cherry and Midnight Cowboy Rides Again have dry texture, but you can still deal with Cherry. Oil Slick and Chopper are sometimes dry and chalky too, but it’s still bearable. The others are so buttery and smooth, they also have great pigmentation—just like what they say about UD’s famous eyeshadows

HEARTS
CUTE PACKAGING. Urban Decay always has great packaging!
COMPACT SIZE. Great for travelling, even it’s a little too small for such a expensive palette la..
            PRETTY COLORS.
            HAS GREAT PIGMENTATION.
STURDY PACKAGING. Even it’s made from a cardboard but it has magnetic opening, not easily opened once falls off~

CROSSES
6 of 9 COLORS HAVE GLITTERS. This palette is not for you, Matte-lovers! It has no even one matte color.
THE GLITTERY COLORS TEND TO FALL OUT.
THE GLITTER WILL MESS UP YOUR PALETTE.
THE TEXTURE OF MOSTLY SHADOWS ARE CHALKY DUE TO ITS GLITTER CONTAINING.
            THE FALLOUTS HURT YOUR EYES!!!!
PRICEY. It was retailed for $36 before finally being reduced to $12.

REPURCHASE?
Maybe? Only for Vert and Shattered!

CONCLUSIONS
This palette is not for matte lovers. Use the sponge applicator, now you can thank them for including it instead of a brush eh, and dab it to apply. Never swipe the colors on your lid because once the glitter starts to fall out they will surely hurt your eyes, especially the glitter from Midnight Cowboy Rides Again! (;A;   ) Some that I said have fallout issues with, were slightly reduced after I used the color for several times. The top of the eyeshadows were rather dry and chalky, but the more you use them the less fallout issues you will get! A love and hate eh? Overall the pigmentation are great, and I love it for travelling—maybe when I’m about to attend a party out of the city since the colors mostly are glittery?

Do you have this palette? What do you think about it? Drop your comments below, well Ciao for now~

  4. This was my first palette I bought from them too! But it was like years ago. I found that with this you have to pat, with your fingers, the product on. Less fall outs. But yes this palette isn't for the everyday, very glittery type.

  5. Lovely post~ & I have to admit that I wasn't hyped about this one. The colors don't really scream out to me T.T But none the less, still very pretty and UD shadows are always smooth and rich in color<3
